A leader in the financial services space, based in Johannesburg, is looking for a Project Manager who will be leading and guiding the work of technical staff; serving as liaison between business / clients and technical aspects of projects; planning project stages and assessing business implications for each stage. The Project Manager is responsible for monitoring project progress to assure deadlines, quality standards, and cost targets are met. 

Key Performance Area's

  • Gather, document and ensure understanding of user / business requirements
  • Resource and vendor / partner management - Liaise with relevant department managers in order to allocate project team
  • Prepare high level project plan and collaborate with team to develop detailed project plan (MS Project) and submit project plan to client for review and sign off
  • Follow the Client project management methodology, which includes hosting project start-up meetings with the entire project team
  • Liaise with team members weekly to ensure project is on track
  • Review hours usage (compare planned vs. actual), correct hours overruns
  • Adjust plan and key milestones weekly
  • Communicate with client weekly (written, verbal)
  • Prepare project managers workbook for client, and update it weekly
  • Liaise with client regarding on site time (troubleshooting, specification gathering, training of resources, installation of software, assistance with user acceptance testing, project management)
  • Escalate major issues as appropriate
  • Develop clear knowledge and understanding of Client products by attending internal knowledge sharing sessions

Project Management Support

  • Supporting the channel with demos and product information
  • Supporting developers with user requirements and project scheduling
  • Supporting marketing communications with screen shots and technical

Service Delivery

  • Input and collaboration in the creation of new user guides, administration guides and brochures or improvement of current guides and brochures
  • Quality check user guides, brochures and sales related documentation

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Software Project Manager in a software development company
  • B.Sc. Degree or similar
  • Experience in managing software application development projects. When the projects are delivered using an agile or waterfall methodology.
  • A solid, demonstrable understanding of computer software, user interaction models, information presentation, business process optimization and change management are absolute must haves.
  • A proven capability with the Microsoft office suite of products specifically Project, Word and PowerPoint
  • Collaborative working - excellent interpersonal skills, works effectively within a team environment
  • Organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills (English language)
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities
