A leader in the Insurance space, based in Midrand has a vacancy for a Junior Data Scientist. The Junior Data Scientist contributes to the organisational goals by extracting quantifiable insights from data assets by using machine learning, AI and statistical analysis to deliver valuable business insights that helps with strategic decisions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Business problem identification
  • Relationship building across the business
  • Data gathering (internal and external)
  • Follow instructions from manager and meet timelines
  • Sign-off work from peers and manger
  • Some instances piece of work to form part of larger project.
  • Deliver on project outcomes and timelines management
  • Data cleaning
  • Responsible for upskilling in data, modelling and business knowledge
  • Feature extraction and design
  • Machine learning algorithms
  • Presentation and communication of results up to exco level
  • Implementation of models/data products
  • Monitoring and quantification of model/data product's effects


  • Focussing on customer needs and satisfaction

  • Grade 12 (Standard 10) with University Entrance (NQF4)
  • 3-year degree in Information Technology / Sciences / Informatics / Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Quantitative sciences / Actuarial sciences / Data Mining


  • Master’s Degree in Information Technology / Sciences / Informatics / Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Quantitative sciences / Actuarial sciences / Data Mining


  • Deep knowledge of Statistics
